From The Wild

A journey in wild food that creates a food forest along the way!

What is From The Wild? The filmed experience of friends exploring archery, rifle, shotgun, trapping, hand line ice fishing, fly fishing, spin casting in the heat, the cold, the rain, the snow in the grasslands, badlands, boreal forest, foothills, and rocky mountains. Chasing, harvesting, processing, and cooking wild food, learning something new every time about the food - and about themselves. Endless hours of pursuit. Unforgettable food experiences deeply connected to time, place, and people.

That connection has undeniably led them to us. A way to create forest that can be a source of food for them and the generations to come. They'll be contributing to their forest as they can through their ongoing documentary series, events with Slow Food Edmonton, and their new pop-up store in Edmonton. To start their goal is to focus on projects we've planted that have food outcomes through species like pin cherry, blueberries, and labrador tea. But that is only the beginning...

For us there is an important role to explore and expand here, by looking at how we can add even more diversity to our forests through an increasing variety of native shrubs, nuts, herbs and even mushrooms. This type of "passive agriculture" speaks to us on many levels of sustainability, as does the possibility of re-connecting to some of Brad's familial roots in trapping, fishing and hunting.

We're honoured to be a small part of From The Wild - their adventures - and the uncharted culinary territories that wild foods offer.
